FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Redshirt junior Bryce Robbins helped carry No. 9 Loyola Chicago to a 3-1 win over No. 20 Purdue Fort Wayne on Thursday, April 9 behind 12 kills on a .786 hitting clip. The Ramblers improved to 18-6 overall and 12-3 in Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) play ahead of the regular season finale.
Grad student Josh Schellinger finished with the match-high 13 kills and junior Daniel Fabikovic led Loyola's defense with the match-high six digs.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Ramblers found themselves in an early hole, losing the first set 25-20. Purdue Fort Wayne grabbed the advantage for good at 13-12 in a set that was knotted up five times before the Mastodons took control.
SET 2 | Loyola responded with a 25-21 victory in the second set, taking control early at 5-4 and never trailing afterward. Schellinger paced the offense with four kills in frame.
SET 3 | Loyola persevered in a back-and-forth set, coming out on top 25-23 to take a 2-1 lead. The set was tied up 12 times and saw eight lead changes. Robbins entered the third frame and made an immediate impact, recording three kills and adding an ace and a dig.
SET 4 | The Ramblers clinched the match with a dominant 25-15 win and showed a strong performance on the attacking side, racking up 16 kills on .619 hitting. Robbins led the way with nine kills while hitting .800.
