CHICAGO – Loyola Chicago continued its Big Ten road trip Wednesday night with a match at No. 5 Michigan State. The Spartans netted a late goal to edge the Ramblers, 1-0.
With the loss, Loyola falls to 1-2-0 overall.
"To lose that way on the road, being so close, obviously stings. We're gutted for the team after they left everything out there," said head coach
Jon Sandoval. "But tonight was a complete 180 from the Iowa performance. They competed with pride, fought for each other, and gave everything they had. We're incredibly proud of the way they performed. It's a step forward."
How It Happened
Loyola kept Michigan State scoreless in the first half despite nine shots by the Spartans in the opening 45 minutes.
Josslyn Weissman put the first attempt on target in the 13
th minute of play. MSU's first shot on goal came in the 27
th minute, but the match remained scoreless at the break.
The Spartans put up 12 more shots in the second half and held the Ramblers to just one. Kayla Briggs finally found the back of the net in the 83
rd minute to score the game winner for Michigan State.
