CHICAGO – Loyola Chicago men's soccer battled back from a second-half deficit to earn a 1-1 draw against Milwaukee Thursday night at Loyola Soccer Park.
With the draw, Loyola moves to 2-0-1 on the season, remaining undefeated through its first three matches for the second consecutive season, while Milwaukee moves to 1-0-2.
"I thought Milwaukee had a really good first half," said head coach Kevin Robson. "We were a little sluggish, maybe a little tired after the atmosphere and effort of Sunday's game. Credit to Milwaukee — they came in and played really well. We knew it was going to be a battle with a regional rival and former conference opponent, and they have some really good pieces. I was proud of our response. After we gave up the goal, I thought we did a really nice job of battling back to equalize and come away with a draw."
How It Happened
The first half was scoreless as the Ramblers held a 5-2 advantage in shots. Loyola also earned three corner kicks while holding Milwaukee without one. Maxwell Ionita made one save in the opening 45 minutes.
Milwaukee opened the scoring in the 73rd minute when Felix Huwiler found the back of the net off an assist from Dominic Zuniga.
The Ramblers responded just 11 minutes later. Following back-to-back corner kicks, Nicholas Roe scored his first goal of the season off a corner kick in the 84th minute. Arved von Vegesack and Luka Ivancic, who was the corner taker, were credited with assists on the equalizer.
Loyola continued to pressure in the final minutes, but neither team could find the game-winning goal as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
