An 89th Minute Goal Wins For Men's Soccer Over SIUE

CHICAGO – Arved von Vegesack stepped up for the Ramblers late in the second half to keep Loyola Chicago's unbeaten streak alive at seven games. His goal came in the 89th minute for the win, 1-0.

With the win, the Ramblers improve to 5-0-2. This is the best start to a season since 2016 when Loyola went 7-0-0 to open the year.

"Tonight was an intense battle with a good team," said head coach Kevin Robson. "I'm proud of the team. What a play we had at the end to win it. The backline has also been great for us the last couple of games. We need to get a bit more organized and disciplined, but we had a lot of positives to build off tonight."

How It Happened
The Ramblers came out and took three shots in the first 10 minutes before Benji Chavarria nearly scored in the 13th minute. SIUE's first attempt didn't come until the 17:02 mark. They'd get back-to-back attempts on goal in the 26th minute, but Maxwell Ionita saved both to keep it scoreless. The Cougars fired off one more on goal in the 42nd minute that wouldn't find the back of the net, and the match remained scoreless at halftime.

The teams combined for another 17 shots in the second half. Ionita made three more saves, while Vegesack finally put one of Loyola's attempts away in the 89th minute. Mateusz Drazek fed the ball up the middle to Vegesack to blew by two defenders to shoot high and score. Loyola held on to win, 1-0.
