DEKALB, Ill. – The Ramblers used a second-half goal to earn a road win at Northern Illinois Thursday night, 1-0.
Catherine Cline scored in the 70
th minute to put Loyola Chicago on the board and extend its unbeaten streak to four matches.
With the win, Loyola improves to 3-2-2 overall.
"Tonight was an all around a great team effort. We executed well and created some quality chances. Moving forward, we have to be a bit more clinical in front of the goal," said head coach
Jon Sandoval. "Before the match, we talked about putting a full 90 minutes together, and we did that today. I'm proud of this group and excited to get back out there at Marquette on Sunday."
How It Happened
The Ramblers came out on a mission, out shooting the Huskies 7-1.
Addison Schaffer forced the first NIU save in the eighth minute. Five Ramblers combined for the six other shots taken in the first half. All were off target. NIU's lone attempt came in the 10
th minute out left. The match remained deadlocked at the break.
The Ramblers took another nine shots in the second half.
Maggie Schmidt had a near goal in the 55
th minute with a shot off the top woodwork, while
Lydia Case had one on target four minutes later. Cline finally broke through in the 70
th minute to put the Ramblers up, 1-0. NIU wouldn't get another chance on goal, and Loyola went on to win.
