WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The men's soccer team closed its non-conference slate at Wake Forest Tuesday night. Loyola Chicago fell to the Deacons, 3-0.
With the loss, the Ramblers fall to 5-3-3 overall.
"I'm proud of the guys," said head coach
Kevin Robson. "I thought we came in and gave it our best shot against one of the premier programs in the country. We wanted to get better from this game, and I thought we accomplished that."
How It Happened
Wake Forest got on the board early with two goals in the first 10 minutes of the match. The Deacons had four shots before one of the found the back of the net in the ninth minute. Their next shot a minute later also got by the Loyola keeper for a 2-0 lead by the 9:22 mark.
Benji Chavarria and
Shane Howard had late attempts on goal, but Wake Forest held on to the lead at the break.
The teams combined for 21 shots in the second half. Loyola's first came in the 64
th minute.
Chimnosoh Okeke nearly scored in the 79
th minute. The Deacons quickly followed up his attempt with their third goal in the 81
st minute. Okeke had one more on goal attempt in the final minute, but Wake Forest held on to the shutout, 3-0.
