YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Julie Kenkel recorded her first goal since 2004 as Loyola University Chicago (11-7, 6-1 Horizon) earned a 3-0 victory over Horizon League foe Youngstown State (1-15-1, 0-4 Horizon) this afternoon. Loyola dominated the contest, out-shooting the Penguins, 33-9.
Cynthia Morote-Ariza broke the scoreless tie in the 40th minute when she found the back of the net for the 13th time this season, adding to her single-season school record total for goals (13) and points (32). Rookies Maggie Doe and Lauren Gerbick were credited with assists on Morote-Ariza's score. Freshman Nikki Staton added to the Ramblers' lead just over three minutes later when she scored off of a rebound of her own shot that hit the post to give Loyola a 2-0 lead it carried into halftime.
Kenkel, who missed nearly half of the 2005 season and all of the 2006 campaign due to injury, gave Loyola an insurance goal when she headed in a goal in the 68th minute. The goal was her first score since 2004, when she was named Horizon League Newcomer of the Year.
In other League action today, Milwaukee claimed the Horizon League regular-season title thanks to a 2-0 win versus Wright State.
Loyola plays its final home match of the 2007 regular season when it hosts Michigan State, Oct. 25 at 4 p.m.
