With a 2-0 shutout victory over Horizon League foe, Cleveland State, the Loyola men's soccer team notched its first win in league action on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Ramblers improve to 5-3-3 overall and 1-0-2 in Horizon League play, while Cleveland State drops to 3-6-2 overall and 0-1-1 in League action.
The Ramblers got on the board in the first half with just under 11-minutes on the clock, when sophomore Michael Ferguson tallied his League-high eighth goal of the season, a pass from teammate Markian Zyga to give Loyola a 1-0 edge on the Vikings. Loyola rode the single goal through the 82nd minute of action, when senior Keum Sung Kim notched a free kick from the top of the box into the upper right corner of the net to seal the 2-0 shutout victory for the Ramblers.
Junior keeper Brian Bryne held Cleveland State scoreless and tallied three saves through 90-minutes of action. The Arlington Heights, Ill., native recorded his fifth shutout of the season, his fourth in the Ramblers' last five matches.
Loyola out shot its opponent 12 shots to four and held the edge on corner kicks with five to Cleveland State's one.
The Ramblers return to Loyola Soccer Park on Friday, October 12 when they take on Horizon League rival Wright State. The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
