Loyola Battles to 0-0 Draw at Green Bay

Oct. 31, 2008

Final Stats

Green Bay, Wis. - The Loyola (8-5-3, 3-2-2 HL) men's soccer team continued its offensive struggles, but the defense held strong through two overtimes, as the Ramblers' settled for a scoreless tie at Horizon League foe Green Bay (5-7-4, 3-2-2 HL) Friday night.

The opening period featured more aggression than offense, as both teams combined for 22 fouls, but just seven shots, including one on goal for Green Bay. For the second straight match, Loyola failed to produce a shot on goal in the first half and totaled just three for the game, including two in the first overtime.

The Phoenix added seven more shots after the break, but none that would find the back of the net. The Ramblers mustered just two shots before time expired in regulation without a score. Loyola produced two shots on goal after two overtimes, while not allowing any to Green Bay, but after 110 minutes of play the match ended a scoreless draw. This is the first time since 1985 that Loyola has gone scoreless in five straight games.

Senior Keum Sung Kim and junior Michael Ferguson each recorded two shots and one shot on goal, while sophomore Chris Mills added a shot and shot on goal. Senior goalkeeper Brian Byrne notched two saves in his eighth shutout of the season.

Loyola wraps up the regular season this Sunday with its final League match at No. 13 UIC beginning at 6 p.m.
