Indiana Sinks Loyola With Overtime Goal, 2-1

Sept. 21, 2008

Final Stats

Bloomington, Ill. - Indiana's Kristin Arnold scored less than two minutes into overtime to lift the host Hoosiers over Loyola, 2-1, this afternoon at Armstrong Stadium in Bloomington, Ind. Loyola drops to 3-7 after its fourth loss in five matches while Indiana improves to 5-4 with the win.

Indiana had Loyola on its heels in the early going and it took less than seven minutes for the Hoosiers to open the scoring. Christie Kotynski's shot was well-saved by Katie Groesch, however, Carly Samp was there to deposit the rebound into the net for a 1-0 lead. The Ramblers finally managed to get into a flow over the last 15 minutes of the half but went to the locker room trailing by that single goal.

The Ramblers continued to generate chances in the second half and pulled even in the 63rd minute when Cynthia Morote-Ariza fired a rocket into the upper corner of the net from outside the box for her fourth goal of the season. Jackie Vera was credited with an assist on the goal. The Ramblers survived a couple of Indiana chances down the stretch and the match headed into overtime.

It was Loyola's first overtime match of the season but it did not last long, as Arnold was played in behind the defense and beat Groesch for the match winner in the 92nd minute.

Loyola comes home for two matches next weekend, beginning with a Friday night (6 p.m.) match against Drake.
