Loyola, Detroit Battle to 0-0 Tie

Oct. 3, 2010

Final Stats

DETROIT- Despite 10 shots in 110 minutes of action, including three in extra time, the Loyola University Chicago women's soccer team played to a 0-0 tie to Detroit on Sunday afternoon in Detroit, Michigan.

With the draw, Loyola remains unbeaten against conference opponents, moving to 2-0-1 in the Horizon League (4-8-1 overall). Detroit is now 4-4-4 overall (2-0-1, HL) this fall.

Fresh off a win to Valparaiso, the Rambler offense attacked early on in Sunday's match, looking to put the Titans on their heels in the game's opening minutes.

In the 19th minute, freshman Alex Brown nearly gave Loyola the early advantage, but her shot attempt was saved by Detroit goalkeeper Nora Abolins. Two more Rambler first half attempts missed the net, taking the game scoreless into halftime.

The second frame was much of the same story for both teams, with Loyola making four more shots that missed the target. Detroit added seven second half attempts.

With the match still tied at 0-0, and for the second time in three games, the Ramblers looked for a win in a double-overtime contest.

The Ramblers managed two shots in the final frame, with Cara Morawski and Maggie Doe making the final attempts. Both shots, however, kept the game with zeros on the board.

As the final horn sounded, the teams cleared the field scoreless, 0-0

Offensively, Brown led the Loyola charge, as the freshman made two shots on goal. Morawski and Doe each fired two shots, as well. Rambler goalkeeper Katie Groesch finished the road game with two big saves, seeing 14 attempts head her direction on the afternoon. The junior now has 39 blocks in 2010.

The women's soccer team will now return home for a pair of matches this coming weekend, starting with Cleveland State on Friday, October 8 at 7:00 p.m. CST.
