MILWAUKEE, Wis. - James Howe and Eric Nock scored goals and Peter McKeown turned away six shots as Loyola University Chicago (4-11-1, 2-5-0 Horizon) kept its Horizon League Championship berth hopes alive with a 2-0 victory at Milwaukee (5-9-2, 2-3-2 Horizon) tonight at Engelmann Stadium. The victory snaps the Ramblers' two-match losing skid and is their first win away from home since a 3-0 shutout at Portland on September 4.
Milwaukee opened the match with an offensive barrage, tallying five shots to Loyola's one in the opening 21 minutes of play, but the Rambler defense held firm during that initial Panther surge.
Howe provided all of the offense Loyola would need when he notched his second goal of the year off a loose ball, burying shot that deflected to the far post, at the 30:18 mark of the opening period.
A mere six minutes later, the Ramblers added an insurance goal when Milwaukee was whistled for a foul in the box, thus creating a penalty kick opportunity for Nock. The Cincinnati native converted the PK chance, sending a shot past Milwaukee goalkeeper John Shakon for a 2-0 Loyola lead.
McKeown finished with six saves, stopping two Panther shots in the closing six minutes of the match, en route to his third shutout of the season.
Loyola closes out the regular season with a critical Horizon League showdown versus city and conference rival UIC, Wednesday night (Nov. 2) at 7 p.m.
