Washington Edges Loyola In Overtime, 1-0

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Loyola men's soccer team fell to Washington, 1-0, in overtime as part of the Nike Invitational in Portland, Ore. After a 90-minute battle for the win, the Huskies scored in the fifth-minute of the overtime period to secure the win. With the loss, the Ramblers fall to 0-2-0 on the season.

Freshman Brian Bementcame out right away for the Ramblers with a quick shot 24 seconds into the match. After a foul was called on Loyola, the momentum to swung in favor of Washington who accounted for seven shots in the first half.

It was not until 35:15 that Loyola had another chance to find the board when senior Eric Marofske tried for the goal from close right wing only to hit the post for the deflection.

In the second half, the Rambler defense stepped up their game to limit the Huskies to only three shots, catch the Huskies offisides nine times, and force the match into overtime.

The match came to an end when Brent Richards scored the game-winner with the clock at 95:52. From inside the box, Jacob Hustedt took a shot that was rebounded by the keeper for an easy put-away by Richards.

As a team, Loyola posted four shots in the match with Bement, Marofske, Erik Warren, and James Howe adding one a piece. Peter McKeown took the position in between the posts and finished with five saves on the night.

The Ramblers will continue their effort at the Nike Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 4 when they face the host Portland at 4:30 p.m. CST.
