Los Angeles, Calif. - In a rematch of last night's loss to No. 3 UCLA, the Loyola University Chicago softball team fell one again to the Bruins inside Easton Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif. tonight. The Ramblers were defeated 7-2 in their fourth game of UCLA/CSUN Invitational and fall to 8-13 on the year. UCLA improves to 20-1 with the win.
UCLA put together a two-out rally in the bottom of the second inning to jump on the board first and take a 3-0 lead. After Alyssa Tiumalu drew a walk and Gracie Goulder singled up the middle to put Bruins at second and third, Ally Carda tripled down the left field line to plate two runs. Gabrielle Maurice then reached on a Loyola error and Carda was able to scamper home to make the score 3-0.
Loyola began to chip away in the top of the third inning, coming within two after Alyssa Mannucci led off the frame with a single to shortstop. With one out, Olivia Bell and Brie Pasquale hit back-to-back singles up the middle to push Mannucci across home plate and cut the Bruins' lead to 3-1.
The Ramblers continued their offensive push in the top of the fifth inning, adding one more run to their total to come with one, 3-2. After Tarran Shaffer singled through the right side, Lauren Zaworski reached on a fielder's choice. Mannucci then doubled to left center to score Zaworski and make the score 3-2.
UCLA built on its lead in the bottom of the fifth inning, however, starting with back-to-back singles by Jessica Hall and Jelly Felix. Alyssa Tiumalu then stepped to the plate and hit a double into center field to plate both runners and increase the Bruin lead to 5-2.
The Bruins continued to put runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning, after Delaney Spaulding led off the frame with a single through the left side. Once Spaudling stole second, Mysha Sataraka homered to left field to make the score 7-2, which is where it would stay after the Ramblers could not put together a comeback in the top of the seventh.
Both Mannucci and Bell finished 2-for-3, with Mannucci also contributed one RBI and one run. Amanda Ciran took the loss in the circle, giving up seven runs on 10 hits in six innings pitched.
The Ramblers are back in action tomorrow when Loyola takes on CSU Bakersfield at 11:00 a.m. CT in their final game of the UCLA/CSUN Invitational in Los Angeles, Calif.
