CHICAGO - Morgan Reardon recorded 13 kills to lead a Loyola offense that hit .363 in a 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-22) sweep of Bradley this afternoon at Gentile Arena. The Ramblers improve to 18-5 (7-3 Valley) with the win while Bradley slips to 5-17 (0-10).
The teams were tied four times to 5-5 in the opening set before Loyola took control. A Gabi Maciagowski kill and two Bradley errors gave the home lead a three-point lead and the Ramblers took a 14-9 lead midway through the set after a Maureen Carls ace and a Sami Hansen solo block. Loyola was able to methodically push the lead out the rest of the set and consecutive Maciagowski kills gave the Ramblers an eight-point advantage (20-12) before a Reardon solo block closed out a 25-16 LU win. Loyola hit .360 (13-4-25) in the set while its defense held Bradley to a -.071 (6-8-28) efficiency.
Loyola jumped out to a 7-4 lead early in the second set and, again, led 14-9 after kills from Reardon and Maciagowski. The lead was seven (19-12) after Reardon smashed an overpass for a kill but Bradley was able to hang around, cutting the lead to 22-19 after a Cordelia Murphy kill. Maciagowski scored again coming out of a timeout and an Amanda Cushen kill later wrapped up a 25-22 win that gave the hosts a 2-0 lead in the match. Loyola hit .406 in the set, with Reardon ripping seven kills in eight swings to lead the way.
After Bradley jumped out to a 5-3 lead in the third set, two Maciagowski kills highlighted a 4-1 LU spurt that gave the Ramblers the lead. However, the Braves hung in there and rattled off four straight points later to take a 14-10 lead. Loyola tried to chip away at the deficit but the BU lead was still four (20-16) after a kill and a LU error. A Bradley error and a Caroline Holt ace cut the deficit to two and, after trading points to 21-19, Loyola made its move. A Hansen kill and two Bradley errors gave the Ramblers the lead and a Reardon ace capped a five-point run that made it a 23-21 game. A Kelsey Cave kill stemmed the tide, but only momentarily, as kills from Carls and Cushen closed out the match.
Reardon shook off a slow start to lead the way, racking up 12 of her match-high 13 kills in the last two sets. Maciagowski added 11 kills and Cushen pitched in with nine put-aways. Holt handed out 37 assists and three aces while directing the offense.
Loyola returns to action next Friday (Oct. 30) when it hosts Southern Illinois. First serve from Gentile Arena is set for 7 p.m.
