CHICAGO - The Loyola University Chicago men's volleyball team continued its homestand on Thursday night, defeating Quincy in a 25-23, 25-19, 25-19 sweep. With the win, the Ramblers improve to 12-0 on the season and 4-0 in MIVA play. Thomas Jaeschke led Loyola with 12 kills, while Owen McAndrews added 10 kills on 11 attacks to record a .909 hitting percentage.

Quincy jumped out to a 9-4 lead to begin the first set, forcing a Loyola timeout, but Trevor Novotny scored back-to-back points, a kill and a service ace, to cut the Hawks' lead to three. Each team scored on an error before back-to-back kills from Ben Plaisted and Jaeschke pulled the Ramblers to within one point. The teams traded points until Loyola put together a 4-0 run, led by a kill and back-to-back service aces from Owen McAndrews, followed by a Plaisted kill, to take a 17-14 lead. The Hawks rallied to tie the set at 19-19, and the teams traded points until a Jaeschke kill and a Quincy error ended the set at 25-23.

The second set began with the teams trading points until Loyola scored three unanswered, a Quincy error followed by back-to-back kills from Peter Hutz and Jaeschke, to take an 8-5 lead. The Ramblers maintained the steady lead behind kills from Jeff Jendryk, Novotny and McAndrews, along with a block from McAndrews and Jaeschke, until back-to-back points, a Hutz kill and a Plaisted service ace, gave Loyola a 16-10 lead. After two kills apiece from Novotny and McAndrews, followed by a Jaeschke kill and a McAndrews service ace, the Rambler lead increased to 23-16. Loyola was then able to close out the set behind kills from Novotny and Jendryk and win it 25-19 to take a 2-0 lead.

Loyola raced out to an early 8-4 lead in the first set, but Quincy scored three of the next four points to pull within two. The Ramblers responded with a 6-0 run, led by two kills from Jaeschke, a Jendryk service ace and a block from McAndrews, Jaeschke and Hutz, to increase the lead to 15-7 and force a Quincy timeout. Loyola was able to run up the score to 19-9, but the Hawks rallied to score seven of the next nine points and cut the Rambler lead to 21-16, forcing a Loyola timeout. The Ramblers were able to fend off the Hawks, and a Jendryk service ace won the set 25-19, giving Loyola the 3-0 victory.

The Ramblers are back in action on Saturday, hosting MIVA opponent Lindenwood at 7 p.m. in Gentile Arena.
