The Ramblers wasted no time and came out hot to open the match, outhitting the Red Flash .571 behind a combined 15 kills from Jeff Jendryk, Nick Olson and Trevor Novotny. Ricky Gevis led the Ramblers in set two, racking up nine kills on 12 swings, with the team committing just one error en route to posting a .600 hitting clip. Peter Hutz spread the love in set three, as seven Ramblers recorded at least one kill during the set.

How it Happened
The Ramblers raced out to an early 9-3 lead to open the match, capped by a four-point run that included kills from Novotny and Murray, as well as a pair of blocks from Hutz and Olson. Loyola managed to up the lead to 21-15 before the Red Flash rallied to cut the deficit to three points, but kills from Jendryk, Murray and Olson closed out the set.
After trading points to begin set one, Loyola slowly began to pull away behind a pair of kills from Gevis before back-to-back Murray kills capped a three-point Rambler run, making the score 16-11. The Ramblers increased the lead on kills from Hutz and Novotny before Gevis closed out the set with two more kills.
The two teams battled back-and-forth to begin the third set until Loyola scored four unanswered points, including a pair of kills from Gevis, to take a 12-7 lead. The Ramblers maintained the steady lead behind kills from McAndrews, Olson, Mahan and Murray before Saint Francis rallied to cut the Loyola lead to 19-17. Ben Plaisted upped the lead with back-to-back points, and the Ramblers held on to win the set.
Inside the Numbers
- Loyola posted its highest hitting percentage of the season in the victory, outhitting Saint Francis .487 to .211. The team recorded a season-high 50 kills, with five Ramblers (Gevis, Olson, Jendryk, Murray, Novotny) tallying more than five kills.
- Ricky Gevis and Nick Olson combined for 21 kills on a .455 hitting clip.
- Five Ramblers were error-free throughout the match, including Jeff Jendryk who finished the night early with seven kills on seven swings, including six kills in the first set. Trevor Novotny added six kills on a .474 hitting clip, while both Peter Hutz and Owen McAndrews were three-for-three.
- Ben Plaisted made his season debut midway through the third set, marking his first appearance since suffering a knee injury in April of last year. The sophomore led the offense to end the set, tallying two kills and a service ace.
