In Short...
A first-half goal from sophomore Fabian Lifka helped the No. 13/8 Loyola University Chicago men’s soccer team grab a valuable point on the road this evening as it battled Evansville to a 1-1 draw in double overtime. Tonight’s result from Arad McCutchan Stadium sees the Ramblers move to 10-1-1 overall (4-0-1 MVC), while the Purple Aces now sit at 6-6-2 (2-2-1)

How It Happened
Junior Elliot Collier nearly put the Ramblers on top inside of four minutes when his attempt was pushed away by Frederik Reimer, the Evansville goalkeeper. The hosts struggled to put any pressure on Loyola early on but began to find their footing as the half progressed. In the 23rd minute, Jesse Stanford Lacey sent a low cross into the box that Jared Robinson headed home from inside the six-yard box to make it 1-0 to Evansville.

The Ramblers wasted little time in responding. Just under four minutes after going in front, the Purple Aces were whistled for a foul on the edge of the penalty area. Lifka stepped up and unleashed a blast that found its way inside the far post to level the game at 1-1 in the 27th minute. Junior Kyle Thomson was presented with a similar free kick opportunity to Lifka’s minutes before halftime, only for Reimer to come up with a diving save to send the two teams to the intermission knotted up at 1-1.

Lifka looked to be in prime position to score his second goal of the night in the 57th minute. Following a save by Reimer on an attempt by sophomore Aidan Megally, Lifka collected the ensuing rebound and fired on goal but could only watch as his try was cleared away by the Evansville defense. Chances were at a premium as time began to wind down in regulation. Redshirt junior goalkeeper Andrew Chekadanov turned away Zac Blaydes in the 75th minute to help ensure that overtime would be needed.

Loyola dictated the action during the two extra sessions. Redshirt senior Ryan Howe and junior Brody Kraussel each forced saves out of Reimer in the first overtime. Collier would tally another shot on goal in the 105th minute of play but could not beat the Evansville netminder. That would prove to be the final attempt on target for either team as the game ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
