In Short
Morgan Reardon slammed a season-high 23 kills and Gabi Maciagowski added 18 to power Loyola University Chicago to a 25-15, 25-20, 23-25, 26-24 victory over Bradley tonight at Gentile Arena. With the win, the Ramblers move to 10-12 overall and 5-4 in Missouri Valley Conference action, while Bradley falls to 6-14 overall and 1-8 in MVC competition.
How It Happened
Loyola jumped all over Bradley from the opening serve in set one as Reardon and Maciagowski combined for six early kills as the Ramblers built a 10-3 advantage and never looked back en route to a 25-15 victory. Paced by Reardon and Maciagowski, Loyola hit .346 (13-4-26) in the opening set.
Much like set one, the Ramblers charged out of the starting blocks in the second set, taking a 7-1 lead that grew as large as 14-5. Bradley mounted a comeback and was able to close within 16-13, but Loyola would record three of the next four points to open up a 19-14 cushion and give it some breathing room on the way to a 25-20 win.
Bradley refused to go down without a fight, however, and three kills by Kelsey Cave in a 4-0 Braves run turned a 6-6 tie into a 10-6 lead. The Braves would extend that advantage to as many as six points (14-8), but the Ramblers mounted a rally of their own and a Delilah Wolf service ace drew the teams even at 21. The teams then exchanged points before a Jamie Livaudais kill and ensuing service ace gave the Braves a 24-22 lead. After the Ramblers cut the deficit in half, Rachel Jones finished off the set with a kill for a 25-23 Bradley win.
Loyola took awhile to kick things into high gear in the fourth set, digging itself a five-point hole (20-15). Maciagowski and Sami Hansen teamed up on a block to re-energize the Ramblers and jumpstart a set-closing 11-4 run, during which Reardon recorded her team’s final seven kills to produce a 26-24 decision.
