In Short
Morgan Reardon slammed 18 kills in her first action since November 6, and Loyola University Chicago hit .333 (47-12-105) as a team to earn a 25-21, 25-21, 25-17 victory over Bradley (7-22 2-16 MVC) tonight at Renaissance Coliseum. The win is Loyola’s second in a row heading into next week’s Missouri Valley Conference Tournament in Cedar Falls, Iowa and improves the Ramblers’ record to 14-17 overall and 9-9 in Valley play.
How It Happened
Quinn Spieker served four straight points for Loyola in the opening set as the Ramblers notched five unanswered tallies to turn a one-point deficit into a 10-6 lead. The host Braves would slowly chip away at the deficit and closed with one (15-14) before back-to-back kills by Gabi Maciagowski gave the Ramblers a three-point cushion.
Bradley would later pull within a point, at 20-19, but consecutive kills by Reardon, a Bradley attack error, and block by Sami Hansen and Anna Fluent squelched the Braves’ rally as Loyola pulled out a 25-21 victory.
Loyola used an 8-2 run in set two to turn a two-point deficit into a 13-9 lead. The Braves would creep back into it and a kill by Taylor Thiele trimmed the Ramblers’ lead to 20-18, but another kill from Reardon and a service ace from Heather Kocken gave Loyola a bit of breathing room en route to a 25-21 win and a two-set lead in the match.
The Braves got out to an 11-9 lead in the third set but a kill by Reardon touched off a 6-1 Rambler run that gave the Maroon and Gold a 15-12 advantage. Bradley would later find itself within a pair of points at 16-14, but Maciagowski swung momentum back in Loyola’s favor with a kill and ensuing service ace, and Spieker followed with a kill of her own, as Loyola bumped the lead back up to 19-14 and coasted to the victory, 25-17.
