No. 10 Loyola Tops Quincy, 3-1, in Postseason Opener

In Short…
Seconded-seeded Loyola defeated seventh-seeded Quincy in Friday night's MIVA Quarterfinal matchup, allowing the Ramblers to advance to the conference semifinals for the 16th consecutive season.

How it Happened
Loyola was the first team to score more than two consecutive points in set one, as back-to-back double stuffs from Jeff Jendryk and Will Tischler capped a three-point run and gave the Ramblers an 11-8 lead. Loyola used another three-point run, including kills from Ben Plaisted and Peter Hutz, to up the lead to 16-10 and never looked back, going on to win the set, 25-20. The Ramblers hit a blazing .708 in the first set, led by six kills from Plaisted.

The Ramblers used an early three-point run to take a 7-4 lead in set two, led by kills from Ben Plaisted and Collin Mahan and an Olson/Mahan block. After Quincy battled back to tie the set, Loyola used another three-point run, capped by a block from Olson and Plaisted, to up the score to 17-14, but the Hawks responded by scoring the next four to take the lead. The teams battled back and-forth until Quincy ended the set on a four-point run to win it, 25-21.

After Loyola used a four-point run to take an early 12-7 lead in set three, Quincy responded with a four-point run of its own to cut the lead to one. The Ramblers then scored five of the next six points, including a pair of kills from Nicholas Olson, a Collin Mahan service ace and a solo stuff from Ben Plaisted, to up the score to 17-12, and Loyola held on to win the frame, 25-20.

The Ramblers raced out to a 14-7 lead to begin set four, capped by back-to-back kills from Ben Plaisted. However, Quincy responded by scoring nine of the next 10 points to take a 16-15 lead, forcing Loyola to use both timeouts during the stretch. Jeff Jendryk gave Loyola the lead with back-to-back kills before Collin Mahan led the Ramblers on a 4-1 run, slamming four kills to up the score to 22-19. Loyola went on to win the set, 25-22.

Inside the Numbers
- Loyola committed just one attack error in the first set to post a .708 hitting clip.
- Three Ramblers recorded double-digit kills, led by 15 from Ben Plaisted. Jeff Jendryk added 13 kills, while Nicholas Olson slammed 11 without committing a single error to post a .846 hitting clip.
- Collin Mahan added a career-high two service aces to go along with nine kills.
- Olson recorded two solo stuffs to bring his season total to 18, the eighth-most in a single season in program history.
