MILWAUKEE (December 16, 2017)
Â
In Short
Host Milwaukee (7-5) shot 53.6 percent (15-for-28) from the field in the first half and led by as many as 20 points, then held off a late rally to upend Loyola University Chicago (10-2), 73-56, this afternoon at UWM Panther Arena. The Ramblers, who entered the game as one of the top shooting teams in the nation, connected on only 38.5 percent (20-for-52) of their field goal attempts and 21.1 percent (4-for-19) of their tries from three-point range.
Â
How It Happened
Loyola fell behind 16-11 early in the first half, but a three-pointer by
Donte Ingram, followed by a basket by
Marques Townes, knotted the score. The teams then exchanged buckets before a layup from Jeremy Johnson ignited a 10-0 Milwaukee run that gave the Panthers the lead for good.
Â
The Ramblers closed within 31-25 on a
Lucas Williamson layup, but the Panthers responded with 11 unanswered points to end the half and take a 42-25 lead into the break. Milwaukee was efficient on offense in the opening period, hitting 53.6 percent (15-for-28) from the field, including 6-of-12 from three-point range to build a double-digit lead.
Â
A basket by Brock Stull midway through the second half put Loyola in a 54-34 hole, its largest deficit of the day, but the Ramblers dug deep and cut the gap to 63-52 with 4:29 remaining on a pair Williamson free throws, giving hope for a memorable comeback.
Â
However, Milwaukee was able to slow Loyola's momentum with a big three-pointer from Bryce Barnes and the Ramblers would get no closer the rest of the way.
Â
A Look At The Numbers
- Ingram finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.

- Aundre Jackson, who came into today's game shooting 67 percent from the field, was held to just 1-of-9 shooting from the field.
- Brock Stull totaled a game-high 23 points and added six rebounds for Milwaukee.Â
