In Short
Madison Perrigan’s solo home run in the sixth inning provided the difference as Wichita State (18-12, 5-2 MVC) slipped past host Loyola University Chicago (17-12, 0-7 MVC), 2-1, in game one of a doubleheader at Loyola Softball Park this afternoon. All of the runs came by way of solo home run.
How It Happened
In a pitcher’s duel between Loyola’s Keenan Dolezal and Wichita State’s Katie Malone, Alyssa Mannucci got Loyola on the board first when she clubbed a mammoth one-out solo homer that landed on top of the apartment complex roof just beyond the left field fence, for a 1-0 Rambler advantage. That lead would be short-lived, however. Wichita State third baseman Mackenzie Wright smacked a one-out solo blast of her own, to knot things up at 1, in the top of the third inning.
Dolezal worked her way out of trouble in the fourth, stranding a pair of Shockers on base, but Wichita State would grab the lead on Perrigan’s blast in the sixth.
A Look At The Numbers
- Dolezal, who was the lard-luck loser, scattered six hits in a complete-game effort for Loyola.
- Brooke Wilson accounted for the Ramblers’ only other hit in the game, a third-inning single.
- Kelli Spring had two hits to lead the Shockers’ attack.
