CHICAGO (January 13, 2018)

In Short
Freshman Cameron Krutwig posted season highs of 21 points and 13 rebounds and Loyola University Chicago (14-4, 4-2 MVC) shot 57.7 percent from the field (30-for-52) against the Missouri Valley Conference's leader in field goal percentage defense (.383) in an 81-65 victory over Bradley (13-6, 3-3 MVC) this afternoon at Gentile Arena. The Ramblers' 14-4 record is their best through 18 games since 1965-66.

Porter Moser's Thoughts
"I was pleased with how we answered Bradley's runs. Custer got two quick fouls and there was no panic in us. We've got strength in numbers. Cam Krutwig just gets better and better and had really good energy and got great position tonight."

How It Happened
Despite starting point guard Clayton Custer picking up two fouls in the first four-plus minutes of the game, Loyola was incredibly efficient on offense, shooting 53.6 percent (15-for-28) from the field in the first half. Krutwig scored the first four points of the game as part of the Ramblers' 6-0 start to the action.

Loyola took control in the opening period thanks to a 15-2 run that featured 10 unanswered points that turned a four-point lead into a 29-12 cushion. Defensively, the Ramblers frustrated the Braves into just 32.1 percent (9-for-28) accuracy from the field and forced six turnovers, to keep Bradley at arm's length for the second part of the period.

Eight of the nine players to see the floor in the first half scored for Loyola, led by Krutwig, who fell a rebound shy of a double-double (10 points, 9 rebounds) in the opening 20 minutes alone. Loyola led, 39-24 at the break.

That lead would expand to as many as 22 points (51-29) in the second half on a conventional three-point play from Custer and would hit that high-water mark twice more in the period.

Bradley mounted a rally and closed within 72-59 Darrell Brown's three-pointer with 4:35 remaining, but Custer answered with a three of his own and after Brown connected for a layup, Donte Ingram drained a three to bump the Ramblers' advantage back to a more comfortable 78-61 margin.

A Look At The Numbers
  • Krutwig, who notched his first career double-double, finished 10-of-15 from the field en route to his 21-point performance. The 6-foot-9 center added two assists and a pair of blocks.
  • Ingram netted 15 points and six rebounds, Custer added 12 points and Marques Townes collected 11 points, five boards, three assists and a pair of steals.
  • Loyola held Bradley to 39 percent (23-for-59) shooting.
  • Brown led the Braves with 15 points.
  • Loyola has won 10 of its last 11 games at Gentile Arena.
