Â
In Short
Indiana State (7-8, 2-1 MVC) held Loyola University Chicago (11-4, 1-2 MVC) scoreless for the final 2:45 of regulation and Brenton Scott's layup with a little over a minute remaining put the Sycamores ahead for good on the way to a 61-57 victory tonight at Gentile Arena. The loss snaps Loyola's nine-game home winning streak.
Â
How It Happened
Indiana State rode some hot shooting, coupled with Loyola's inability to put the ball in the basket, to open up a double-digit lead in the first half. A three-pointer from Loyola's
Cameron Satterwhite tied the game at 12, but an ensuing three from Tyreke Key ignited an 18-3 Sycamore surge that gave Indiana State a 30-15 advantage.
Â
That lead would reach 16 points before all was said and done, but Loyola clawed its way back into the game thanks to a strong finish to the period. Eight unanswered Rambler points, five of which came courtesy of
Marques Townes, sliced the deficit to 33-25 at the break.
Â
Donte Ingram helped spark Loyola's rally in the second half, hitting a trio of three-pointers as part of a 19-10 spurt that gave the Ramblers a 44-43 lead, their first since Ingram's first three of the night opened the game's scoring.
Â
Indiana State reclaimed the lead and held a 47-46 advantage before
Aundre Jackson tallied five straight points and
Ben Richardson added another bucket to comprise a 7-0 run that gave Loyola a 53-47 lead, its largest of the night, with 9:22 remaining.
Â
The Ramblers struggled offensively from that point forward, however, scoring just four points the remainder of the way as the Sycamores closed out the game on a 14-4 run.
Â
A Look At The Numbers
- Ingram finished the night with 16 points and five rebounds. He needs 10 more points to reach 1,000 for his career.
- Townes added 11 points, while Jackson matched that production with 11 of his own, to go with eight rebounds.
- Loyola shot 57.1 percent (8-for-14) from three-point range, but connected on only 11 of 31 shots from inside the arc.
- Scott paced Indiana State with 16 points and nine rebounds.
