CHICAGO (October 31, 2018) – With regular season conference matches in the rear-view mirror, the Loyola men's soccer team closes out the regular season on the west coast against the No. 23 Washington Huskies for an 8 p.m. tilt on Nov. 1. The Ramblers currently sit in first place in the Missouri Valley Conference and would share the regular season title if Missouri State beats Central Arkansas on Saturday (Nov. 3).
Last Time Out:Â Loyola dropped its final conference match of the regular season to Central Arkansas, 1-0. The Ramblers outshot the Bears at a 10-8 clip to mark the ninth time this year they've outshot the opponent. Despite the setback, the Ramblers maintained their first place position and hold a one point lead over UCA. As a result of the defeat in Conway, Ark., Saturday's match (Nov. 3) between Central Arkansas and Missouri State will determine who wins the MVC regular season title. An MSU win against UCA would ensure Loyola would share the regular season championship and earn the Maroon and Gold the first seed in the MVC Tournament.Â
A Look at Washington:Â The University of Washington, picked to finish second in the Pac-12, is coming off back-to-back 2-0 wins in conference play, and enter Thursday's match at a 10-7 overall clip. The Huskies are tied for the Pac-12 lead in total goals (27) and are averaging just over six shots per game to lead the conference. Washington has a handful of its players at or near the top of the Pac-12 individual statistical leader board, such as Scott Menzies' nine goals to check in at second. Four of Menzies' goals have resulted in game-winners, a mark that leads the conference in that category. RS-junior goalkeeper Saif Kerawala started the first 12 matches for the Huskies, but RS-sophomore Bryce Logan has since taken over between the posts and notched three saves last time out for his second straight shutout.
Â
Series Stuff:Â The only meeting between the Ramblers and Huskies was a 1-0 overtime heartbreaker in Portland, Ore. back on Sept. 3, 2011. Goalkeeper Peter McKeown made five saves and the Ramblers got four shots from four different players, but ultimately were unable to find the back of the net in the early-season tilt. Thursday will be the first time since 2011 Loyola will play a the Huskies by extension of it being their its matchup with a Pac-12 team since then.
Â
Up Next:Â Loyola awaits its fate for the Missouri Valley Conference tournament on Nov. 7-11 in Evansville, Ind. The Ramblers clinched a first-round bye into the semi-finals and still have a shot at earning the No. 1 seed for the early-November showcase.
