CHICAGO (November 30, 2018) – Loyola University Chicago redshirt senior point guard
Clayton Custer (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest/Iowa State) has been selected as a candidate for the 2018-19 Senior CLASS Award it was announced today. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as a NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
The list of candidates will be narrowed to a field of 10 finalists in February and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2019 NCAA Men's Final Four in Minneapolis.
Custer, who was the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year and an Associated Press Honorable Mention All-America selection in 2017-18 as he helped Loyola to its first NCAA Final Four appearance in 55 years, is averaging 14.1 points and 3.0 assists per game this season. He has been a two-time MVC First Team Scholar-Athlete selection and last season was a CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-District V honoree, while also picking up the MVC State Farm Good Neighbor Award.
