Loyola Raises Curtain On 2018-19 Season, Hosts UMKC Tuesday

Ramblers have won 15 straight home nonconference contests

Coming off a magical 32-6 season in which it finished the year ranked No. 7 in the final USA Today Coaches Poll, set a school record for wins (32), earned its first NCAA tournament berth since 1985 and reached the Final Four for the first time in 55 years, Loyola opens the 2018-19 season Tuesday night when it hosts UMKC. Prior to the game, at approximately 7:45 p.m., head coach Porter Moser and the players will raise the 2018 Final Four banner to the rafters in Gentile Arena. Loyola brings a seven-game winning streak at Gentile Arena into the season opener Tuesday evening. Additionally, the Ramblers have won their last 15 nonconference home games.

Loyola – UMKC - The Series

The Ramblers and Kangaroos are meeting for the sixth time in a series that dates back to 2002. Loyola holds a 4-1 edge in the all-time series, is 2-0 at home, and has won the last two match-ups between the squads.This is UMKC's first trip to Rogers Park since December 13, 2008, when Loyola edged the Kangaroos, 52-47, behind 19 points from JR Blount.

When the teams met last November in Kansas City, Clayton Custer sparked the Ramblers to a come-from-behind, 66-56 victory, scoring 20 points, including 11 straight at one point in the second half. Aundre Jackson added 18 points.

Head coach Porter Moser is 2-0 all-time against UMKC.

Scouting UMKC

UMKC posted a 10-22 overall record a season ago, but lost its final three contests, following a four-game winning streak. The Kangaroos, who suffered six losses by five or fewer points, have lost six of their last seven road games. Junior guard Xavier Bishop led the team with 11.6 points per game last season and is one of two returning double-digit scorers, along with forward and classmate Jordan Giles (10.2 ppg).
 

Ramblings

  • Loyola established a school record with 14 home victories last season. The team has been dominant at Gentile Arena in non-conference play over the last five seasons, going 32-3 (.914) and it brings a 15-game home winning streak in non-Valley play into the 2018-19 campaign.
  • The Ramblers will be seeking their third straight winning season in 2018-19. The last time Loyola recorded three consecutive winning seasons was 1982 through 1985 when it turned the trick in four straight campaigns.
  • In its last two non-league home games, Loyola has shot lights out from behind the arc, draining a staggering 66.7 percent (18-for-27) of its three-point tries.
  • Over the last two seasons, spanning 13 games, Loyola is connecting on its field goal attempts at an impressive 55.5 percent clip (382-for-688) in nonconference home games
