CHICAGO (August 30, 2018) -
Loyola hosts the first of two tournaments this season as it welcomes Furman, Georgia State and Marshall to Gentile Arena for the Hampton Inn Rambler Challenge this weekend. The Ramblers come into their 2018 home opener with some momentum following a four-set victory over McNeese State at the Courtyard by Marriott Samford Invitational last Saturday. This will be the third year Loyola has hosted the Rambler Challenge (2015, 2017) and the Ramblers are 2-4 all-time in the tournament, winning one match in each of the previous two seasons of hosting the event.

Scouting Furman

Furman had a winless opening weekend at a very challenging tournament in Athens, Ga., falling to Illinois State, Georgia and Coastal Carolina. The Paladins, whose roster features two players from the Chicago area, are led by outside hitter Nicole Mack, with 2.82 kills per set.

Scouting Georgia State

The one-two punch of Morgan Hash (3.27 kps) and Sydney Stroud (3.18 kps) sets the tone for Georgia State, which opened the 2018 season by going 2-1 at the StarkVegas Classic hosted by Mississippi State last week. Included in those victories was a four-set decision over the host Bulldogs as Stroud paced the attack with 18 kills and added 11 digs.

Scouting Marshall

Coming off an 11-19 season, Marshall kicked off the new year by dropping three matches at the Dayton Invitational last weekend despite the strong performance of redshirt sophomore Ciara Debell, who put up a team-best 3.89 kills, to go with 1.89 digs per set. Freshman Sarah Schank, is a native of Naperville, Ill., and is averaging 1.00 digs per set this fall.
