CHICAGO (September 24, 2018) – The Loyola Ramblers sit at 3-3-1 after seven matches, and will compete against its third Chicago-based opponent on Tuesday (Sept. 25) at UIC at 7 p.m. The Flames also represent the third Horizon League opponent the Ramblers have squared off against in the regular season.
Â
Last Time Out:Â In the conference opener vs. Drake (Sept. 22), the Ramblers recorded 26 shots in a 1-1 draw. Senior
Alec Lasinski was responsible for nine of the shots, a career high and the highest total by a Rambler in a match in head coach
Neil Jones' tenure. The goal for the Maroon and Gold came off the foot of
Oskar Gustafsson in the 82
nd minute when the Sweden native found the back of the net on a mad scramble for a loose ball in the box. The tie was the first of the season for both Drake and Loyola, and gives the Ramblers one point in the conference standings right out of the gates.
A Look at UIC:Â The UIC Flames, picked to three-peat at Horizon League champions, are fresh off a 3-0 shutout win vs. Detroit Mercy (Sept. 22) and enter Tuesday at a 7-2 mark. Already having 20 goals scored as a team, the Flames are led by a dangerous 1-2 punch of Jesus Perez (3g, 8a) and Max Todd (6g, 0a) to pace their conference-leading attack. Todd's six goals leads the Horizon League and is tied for 11th in the nation. Sawyer Jackman has started all eight games in goal and posts a 6-2 record with just six goals allowed in those starts. Jackman is also the second consecutive FGCU transfer the Ramblers will see between the pipes. The Flames and Ramblers will have had four common opponents entering Tuesday (Drake, Western Michigan, Oakland and DePaul), and UIC has beaten all of them except for Drake.
Â
Series Stuff:Â The Ramblers put a five-match unbeaten streak on the line when they go downtown Chicago to face the Flames. The historically evenly-matched series shows a slight edge to UIC at 15-13-2, with the longest winning streak between the teams of eight belonging to the Flames. The most recent victory for Loyola came in the 2016 NCAA Tournament thanks to goals from
Alec Lasinski and Kevin Engesser, and a handful of clutch saves from Andrew Chekadanov. The win was Loyola's first victory in the NCAA Tournament and was one of six times the squads have gone head-to-head in the postseason.
Â
Up Next:Â Loyola gets back to conference play on Saturday (Sept. 29) by making a three hour trip south west to collide with Bradley. The Braves are off to a 5-2-1 start but will enter with an 0-1 MVC record compared to Loyola's 0-0-1 clip.Â
