Tataryn, Wark Claim MVC Women’s Soccer Weekly Awards

Tataryn named Offensive Player of the Week, Wark repeats as Newcomer of the Week

CHICAGO (October 28, 2019) – For a third straight week, a pair of members from the Loyola University Chicago women's soccer team have earned weekly honors from the Missouri Valley Conference, the league office announced on Monday.  Senior Aleksa Tataryn (Plymouth, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's) was tabbed the MVC Offensive Player of the week, while graduate student Simone Wark (Whitby, Ontario, Canada/Bill Crothers Secondary/South Carolina) repeated as the league's Newcomer of the Week.

Tataryn, who is receiving the first weekly league honor of her career, provided the deciding strike in Loyola's 2-1 win over Indiana State on Saturday night.  The Plymouth, Minn. native found the back of the net in the 27th minute, recording her team-high seventh goal of the season, to help the Maroon & Gold wrap up a share of their second MVC regular season title in as many years.

Now a three-time Valley Newcomer of the Week honoree, Wark provided the vital assist on Tataryn's game-winning tally.  Out of Whitby, Ontario, Canada, Wark currently resides in the top five in the conference in overall points (T-4th; 13), goals (T-4th; 5), and assists (T-3rd; 4).

Winners of its last nine games, Loyola looks to complete a perfect MVC campaign on Thursday when it takes on Evansville in the regular season finale for both teams.  Kickoff from Arad McCutchan Stadium is set for 4 p.m.
