Krutwig, Townes Collect NABC All-District 16 Recognition

Multiple Ramblers honored for second straight season

CHICAGO (March 21, 2019) – Loyola University Chicago men's basketball standouts Cameron Krutwig (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs) and Marques Townes (Edison, N.J./Saint Joseph/Fairleigh Dickinson) have been named National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) First Team All-District 16 it was announced today. Loyola has produced five NABC All-District selections in the last three seasons.

Townes had a remarkable redshirt senior campaign, earning Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year status, averaging 15.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.1 steals per game as Loyola won its second straight regular-season conference title. The 6-foot-4 guard scored in double figures 28 times this season, six times topping the 20-point plateau and in two games versus MVC regular-season co-champion Drake this year, put up 30.0 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 5.0 apg and 1.5 spg. Townes scored a career-best 32 points in a victory over Drake in February and also went for 26 points in a Senior Day win over Bradley and put up 24 points and nine rebounds versus then-No. 5 Nevada in November.

Meanwhile, Krutwig took another step forward in his young and already established career, earning First Team All-MVC accolades and finishing third in the MVC Player of the Year voting one year after being tabbed MVC Freshman of the Year. While helping Loyola to a 20-win season, their second in a row and third in the last five years, the 6-foot-9 center contributed 14.8 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 2.4 apg and 1.0 bpg, while ranking among the nation's leaders by connecting on 62.9 percent of his field goal attempts. Krutwig closed out the 2018-19 season by scoring in double digits in 20 of the final 21 outings, including a career-best, 24-point performance versus Missouri State February 17.

Loyola wrapped up the season with a 20-14 record and earned a berth in the National Invitational Tournament, the first time it has reached the postseason in consecutive campaigns in 55 years.
