Loyola Places Three Individuals On MVC Men’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete Team

Custer, Krutwig earn first team accolades

CHICAGO (March 7, 2019) – Three members of the Loyola University Chicago men's basketball squad were named to the 2019 Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Teams, which were announced today by the league office. Loyola was the only school to have two representatives on the MVC Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete First Team and ranked second overall among league schools with three selections total.

Named to the first team were redshirt senior Clayton Custer (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest/Iowa State) and sophomore Cameron Krutwig (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs). Custer earned first team honors for the third time in as many seasons and this year was a Third Team All-MVC selection after putting up 11.4 points, 1.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game during the regular season. Already in possession of his undergraduate diploma, the point guard is currently pursuing his master's in business administration and has been a two-time Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-District selection.

Joining Custer on the MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team was Krutwig, who has had a monster season, earning First Team All-MVC recognition and finishing third in the MVC Player of the Year voting. An entrepreneurship major, the 6-foot-9 center has scored in double figures in each of the last 18 contests and enters this weekend's MVC Championship averaging 14.9 ppg, 7.3 rpg and 2.4 apg. This is his first appearance on the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team.

Junior guard Bruno Skokna (Zagreb, Croatia) took home MVC Scholar-Athlete Team Honorable Mention status. The Elite 18 winner at the 2018 MVC Men's Basketball Championship, Skokna has been a key player, mostly off the bench, for the Ramblers, contributing 3.3 ppg and 1.7 rpg this season to help Loyola to its second straight MVC regular season title.

The criteria for the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team voting parallels the CoSIDA standards for Academic All-America voting. Nominees must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average (4.0 scale). Student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution (true freshmen and redshirt freshmen are not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at their institution. A nominee must have played in 50 percent of his team's games.

Loyola plays a MVC Championship quarterfinal round contest versus either Indiana State or Valparaiso Friday, March 8 at noon.
