CHICAGO (July 24, 2019) – Marques Townes (Edison, N.J./Saint Joseph/Fairleigh Dickinson), who helped the Loyola University Chicago men's basketball team to back-to back regular-season Missouri Valley Conference championships and a pair of postseason appearances in his two seasons of eligibility, is part of the Dominican Republic's roster for the 2019 Pan American Games, which will be held in Lima, Peru, July 26 through August 11.Â
Â
Organized by the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) and played every four years in the year preceding the Olympics, the Pan American Games are a multi-sport event featuring teams from North, South and Central America and the Caribbean.
Â
Preliminary round action at the 2019 Pan American Games begins July 31 and continues August 1 and 2. Medal-round play begins August 3.Â
Â
The Dominican Republic will compete in Group B in the 2019 Pam American Games, along with Mexico, Argentina and Uruguay. Last summer, Townes played for the Dominican Republic National Team at the XXIII Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, Colombia.
Â
In his short stint at Loyola, the 6-foot-4 guard made quite an impact after transferring from Fairleigh Dickinson, notching 942 points in two seasons in Rogers Park. After starting all 38 games and averaging 11.1 points per game for the Ramblers' 2017-18 club that made a magical run to the NCAA Final Four, Townes captured Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year and Associated Press Honorable Mention All-America accolades in 2018-19. As a senior, he put up 15.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.1 steals per contest, averaging a league-best 18.1 ppg in Valley play.
Â
Earlier this week, Townes signed a contract to play for UCAM Murcia in Spain for the 2019-20 season.
