Cameron Krutwig Named MVC Player Of The Week

Loyola junior center averaged 16.0 ppg, 13.0 rpg, 6.5 apg and 1.5 spg last week

CHICAGO (January 27, 2020) – Cameron Krutwig (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs), a junior center on the Loyola University Chicago men's basketball team, has been selected as the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week it was announced today. In two league contests last week, Krutwig contributed 16.0 points, 13.0 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game, while shooting 55.6 percent (15-for-27) from the field.

The 6-foot-9 center produced 13 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists, falling just short of his second triple-double of the year, in a 75-55 victory over Indiana State on January 22. Earlier this season, Krutwig recorded 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in a victory over Vanderbilt for what is believed to be the first triple-double in program history.

Krutwig then recorded another double-double, totaling 19 points and a career-best 14 rebounds, to go with four assists and a steal, in a heartbreaking 67-62 overtime loss at Northern Iowa yesterday afternoon.

For the year, the Preseason MVC Player of the Year is having a season that is living up to that billing, averaging 15.2 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 4.5 apg and 1.3 spg, while connecting on 58 percent of his field goal tries. He is the only player in The Valley to be averaging at least 15.0 ppg, 8.0 rpg and 4.0 apg.

Loyola (14-7, 6-2 MVC), which is tied with Northern Iowa atop the league standings, plays a pivotal road game Wednesday night (Jan. 29) when it travels to Southern Illinois.
