DADE CITY, Fla. (February 10, 2020) – The Loyola University Chicago men's golf team officially opened its 2020 spring season today, competing in a pair of matchups as part of the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play in Dade City, Fla. The Ramblers dropped a 4.0-2.0 decision to Eastern Michigan in the quarterfinals, before battling Ball State, the event's top seed, to a 3.0-3.0 draw in a consolation-round tilt, with the Cardinals advancing on a margin of victory tiebreaker.
In its morning clash with the Eagles, junior
Devin Johnson picked up a 4-and-3 victory for the Maroon & Gold, while sophomore
Nate Vance and freshman
Timmy Crawford halved their respective matchups.
Senior
Justin LaFrance (4-and-2), junior
Tyler Anderson (3-and-2), and freshman
Zach Walsh (2-and-1) fell in the quarterfinals.
LaFrance and Crawford both turned in impressive efforts against the Cardinals, each recording 3-and-2 victories. Like LaFrance, Walsh also bounced back to pick up a win, finishing two-up.
Anderson (7-and-6), Johnson (3-and-2), and Vance (6-and-4) all suffered setbacks during the afternoon.
Loyola will conclude play at the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play on Tuesday beginning at 7:30 a.m. (CT) when it battles Xavier for seventh place.
