CHICAGO (February 20, 2020) – Cameron Krutwig (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs), a junior center on the Loyola University Chicago men's basketball team, has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 5 First Team, it was announced today. The 6-foot-9 Missouri Valley Conference Preseason Player of the Year will appear on the national ballot for Academic All-America voting and Loyola has now produced a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection in each of the last three seasons.
 
Krutwig is living up to his MVC Preseason Player of the Year billing, averaging 15.3 points, 8.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.2 steals per game, while shooting 57.6 percent from the field. The big man is looking to become the first player in Valley history to rank in the top five in the league in scoring, rebounding assists and field goal percentage.
 
One of only seven players in Loyola history to amass over 1,300 points and 700 rebounds in his career, Krutwig collected his first career triple-double when he totaled 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in a victory over Vanderbilt on December 18. He has come close to another triple-double on a handful of other occasions this season and has nine double-doubles to his credit in 2019-20.
 
Krutwig, an entrepreneurship major, who sports a 3.42 grade-point average, joins former teammate Clayton Custer as the other Rambler to capture CoSIDA Academic All-District recognition in the last three seasons. Custer, who was a Third Team Academic All-American last season, earned CoSIDA Academic All-District status in both the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons.
 
Loyola (19-9, 11-4 MVC) is back in action Saturday when it travels to Missouri State at 2:30 p.m. for a game that will be televised live on CBS Sports Network.
