CHICAGO (March 2, 2020) – The Collegiate Coaching Consortium, a collaboration between AthleticDirectorU and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), is proud to announce that Loyola University Chicago men's basketball assistant coach
Drew Valentine has been selected to participate in this year's event along with 33 other assistant coaches.
Â
Now in its third year, the 2020 Collegiate Coaching Consortium will be held in conjunction with the NABC Convention and NCAA Men's Final Four in Atlanta.
Â
The invitation-only Collegiate Coaching Consortium builds upon the Villa 7 Consortium to bring together a cohort of rising men's and women's basketball coaches and Division I athletics directors to partake in a rigorous multi-day academy that teaches each how to identify, analyze and influence critical organizational processes as a means of building better teams and athletics programs. Each cohort – coaches and athletics directors – participates in individually focused curriculum designed to sharpen the competencies and capabilities that are critical for ensuring success within their respective roles.
Â
The 2020 Consortium will be led by a diverse group of speakers and faculty, which includes leaders in collegiate athletics, professional sports, the business world and higher education.Â
Â
Valentine is in his third season as an assistant coach at Loyola and has helped the Ramblers to the second-most wins over a three-year period in program history (73), including a pair of Missouri Valley Conference regular season championships, a NCAA Final Four appearance (2018) and a National Invitation Tournament NIT berth (2019).
Â
In addition, Valentine has helped develop a pair of MVC Player of the Year selections in
Clayton Custer (2018) and
Marques Townes (2019), with both student-athletes earning Associated Press Honorable Mention All-America recognition.  The Oakland University graduate also helped mentor a MVC Freshman of the Year (
Cameron Krutwig in 2018) and MVC Defensive Player of the Year (
Ben Richardson in 2018).
Â
This season, Valentine has aided in guiding a Loyola squad that was picked fourth in the MVC Preseason Poll to a second-place finish, just one game behind Northern Iowa. The Ramblers, who graduated their starting backcourt of Custer and Townes last spring, haven't skipped a beat in 2019-20, surpassing their win total from a year ago by going 21-10 heading into the MVC Championship later this week.
