CHICAGO (April 13, 2020) – For the fourth straight season, Loyola University Chicago has placed an individual on the I-AAA Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete Team, with the selection of junior center
Cameron Krutwig (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs) to the squad, which was announced today.
Basketball players from all Division I-AAA ADA member institutions are eligible for this prestigious award. Each of the nominees was required to maintain a minimum grade-point average of 3.20 on a 4.00 scale in undergraduate study and have been a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletics credentials. Nominated student-athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games. To be eligible for nomination to the Scholar-Athlete Team, he must have reached junior academic standing at his institution.
The 6-foot-9 Krutwig put together another phenomenal season on the court in 2019-20, averaging 15.1 points, 8.1 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.2 steals per game on his way to First Team All-Missouri Valley Conference recognition. Krutwig became the first player in the storied history of The Valley to rank in the top five in the league in scoring, rebounding, assists and field goal percentage in the same season.
In December, the big man became the first player in Loyola history and the first center in the MVC since 1989 to record a triple-double when he accumulated 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in the Ramblers' 78-70 victory over Vanderbilt at the Basketball Hall of Fame Showcase in Phoenix.
One of only seven players in Loyola men's basketball history to produce over 1,300 points and 700 rebounds in his career, Krutwig will enter his senior campaign ranked 17
thon the school's career list with 1,384 points and 13
thwith 737 rebounds. In addition to his All-MVC haul this season, Krutwig was also lauded as a National Association of Basketball Coaches First Team All-District 16 selection and he is the first Rambler since Blake Schilb (2005-07) to earn first team all-league honors multiple times in his career.
Off the court, Krutwig, who is majoring in entrepreneurship, was a CoSIDA Academic All-District 5 selection and was named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team this season.
Loyola finished the season with 21 wins, marking the third straight year it has recorded at least 20 victories. In his three seasons with the Ramblers, Krutwig has helped Loyola to 73 total victories, two MVC regular season championships, a NCAA Final Four appearance and a National Invitation Tournament (NIT) berth.
