CHICAGO (June 10, 2020) – Former Loyola University Chicago guard
Marques Townes (Edison, N.J./Saint Joseph/Fairleigh Dickinson), who helped lead the Ramblers to back-to-back Missouri Valley Conference regular season championships and a pair of postseason berths in his two seasons with the program, has re-signed with UCAM Murcia in Spain for the 2020-21 season it was announced today.
In his first season with UCAM Murcia in 2019-20, the 6-foot-4 Townes, who was the 2019 Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, averaged 6.1 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.
During his two years at Loyola after transferring from Fairleigh Dickinson University, Townes helped the Ramblers to 52 total victories, including a school-record 32 wins en route to a captivating run to the NCAA Final Four in 2017-18. That season, he ranked second on the team with 11.1 ppg and also added 4.0 rpg, 2.4 apg and 0.9 spg. He hit a huge three-pointer in the closing seconds to seal the outcome in the Ramblers' 69-68 NCAA Sweet 16 victory over Nevada and Loyola concluded the 2017-18 campaign ranked No. 7 in the final USA Today Coaches Poll.
Townes capped his career by earning MVC Player of the Year accolades as the Ramblers shared a second straight MVC regular season title and secured a National Invitation Tournament (NIT) berth in 2018-19. As a senior, the versatile guard contributed 15.3 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 3.6 apg and 1.1 spg, while also collecting Associated Press Honorable Mention All-America and National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) First Team All-District recognition.
Last month, former Rambler Milton Doyle signed a 2020-21 contract to play for Hapoel Eilat in Israel.
