CHICAGO (July 17, 2020) – For a third straight season, the Loyola University Chicago men's basketball program has been recognized for its outstanding performance in the classroom, earning a National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Team Academic Excellence Award. The Ramblers were one of only two Missouri Valley Conference programs and one of only four teams from the state of Illinois to earn the accolade.
During the 2019-20 academic year, which included the challenges posed by the coronavirus outbreak, Loyola recorded a team grade-point average of 3.185.
To receive the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, a program must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for the 2019-20 season.
Loyola posted a 21-11 overall record in 2019-20, finishing one game shy of capturing a third consecutive Missouri Valley Conference regular-season championship. The 2019-20 campaign marked the third straight season the Ramblers posted at least 20 wins. Off the court,
Cameron Krutwig was named to the Division I-AAA Scholar-Athlete Team and was a CoSIDA Academic All-District 5 selection, while a total of three Ramblers collected MVC Scholar-Athlete Team recognition.
