Ramblers Look To Bounce Back, Wrap Up Series With Sycamores Monday Night

Loyola aims for third consecutive 3-1 start to Missouri Valley action

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (January 11, 2021) - Loyola will look to bounce back from its first Missouri Valley Conference loss this season when it closes out a two-game series at Indiana State Monday night in a game that will be televised live on CBS Sports Network. Two of the Ramblers' three losses this season have come by five points or less and a win Monday night would give Loyola a 3-1 record through four MVC games for the third time in as many seasons.

Senior center Cameron Krutwig enters Monday's game needing five rebounds to become just the fourth player in MVC history with 1,500 career points, 800 career rebounds and 300 career assists. The other three players in Valley history to accomplish the feat are Oscar Robertson, Larry Bird and Hersey Hawkins. Only 12 others in the NCAA have achieved that statistical trifecta in the past 10 years.

Since the start of the 2017-18 season, Loyola is 15-13 away from home in Missouri Valley games, the most road wins of any team in the league during that stretch. Missouri State (13), Drake (12) and Southern Illinois (11) have won 10 or more road games in that time.

Loyola – Indiana State – The Series

Loyola and Indiana State are matching up for the 33rd time in a series that started in 1924. The Sycamores possess a 17-15 edge in the all-time series but the Ramblers have won seven of the last 10 meetings between the teams.

When playing in Terre Haute, the Ramblers are 5-9 versus the Sycamores and have claimed three of the last five contests at the Hulman Center.

Last season, the clubs split the regular-season series with the home team claiming each contest. Tyreke Key scored 18 points and Loyola shot just 33.3 percent from the field in a 68-39 loss in Terre Haute when the teams met there last season.

Scouting Indiana State

Picked fourth in the 2020-21 MVC Preseason Poll, Indiana State has dropped four of five contests in league play. The Sycamores are 4-2 overall at home this season and during the 2019-20 campaign, went 12-1 at the Hulman Center.

Indiana State has struggled shooting the ball this year, connecting on only 42.2 percent of its field goal attempts and 33 percent of its tries from three-point territory.

Three Sycamores are scoring in double figures, led by Preseason First Team All-MVC senior guard Tyreke Key, who puts up 15.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, and went for 31 points and 10 rebounds Sunday night against Loyola. Sophomore forward Jake LaRavia is one of the top underclassmen in the Missouri Valley and contributes 11.9 ppg and 5.9 rpg, while junior guard Cooper Neese is tallying 12.2 ppg and shooting 45.8 percent (22-for-48) from three-point land.
