Krutwig Named To Henson Award Mid-Season Watch List

Loyola senior center is one of four MVC players on the list

CHICAGO (January 26, 2021) – Cameron Krutwig (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs), a senior on the Loyola University Chicago men's basketball team, has been named to the 2020-21 Lou Henson Award Mid-Season Watch List. The award, which is presented annually to the top mid-major player in NCAA Division I college basketball, honors the former Illinois and New Mexico State head coach who 775 won games in 41 seasons.

Krutwig is one of four Missouri Valley Conference players on the watch list, joining Elijah Childs (Bradley), Isiaih Mosley (Missouri State) and Roman Penn (Drake).

The award is named after Lou Henson, who is winningest coach in Illinois basketball history with 423 victories. During his 21 seasons (1975-96), Henson led the Fighting Illini to 16 postseason appearances, including 12 NCAA tournaments and a Final Four appearance in 1989.

Krutwig is one of 40 players on the Henson Award Mid-Season Watch List and players on teams from the following conferences are eligible for the award: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Horizon, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt and West Coast.

This season, the 6-foot-9 center is contributing 14.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game, while converting 62.6 percent (97-for-155) of his field goal attempts. He recently became just the fourth player in the storied history of the Missouri Valley Conference to rack up 1,500 points, 800 rebounds and 300 assists for his career, joining three Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame members – Oscar Robertson, Larry Bird and Hersey Hawkins – on that list. Through last night's game at Bradley, the big man owns 1,605 points, 822 rebounds and 317 assists in his career.

Loyola is 13-3 overall and 8-1 in MVC action and will bring a six-game win streak into a two-game series at Missouri State on January 31 and February 1.
