Loyola Mourns The Passing Of Ed Maracich

Former men’s basketball star is a member of Loyola Athletics Hall of Fame

CHICAGO (February 19, 2021) – The Loyola University Chicago community lost one of its all-time great players with the recent passing of former men's basketball standout Ed Maracich, who passed away February 3 at the age of 92.

Maracich played at Loyola from 1948-52 and is a member of the Loyola Athletics Hall of Fame. His best season came during his senior year (1951-52) when he averaged 12.3 points per game for a Ramblers squad that posted a 17-8 record.

The Chicago native later went on to serve as a college basketball and college football referee and drew high praise from coaches on both sports for his work. Maracich worked 10 NCAA men's basketball tournaments and seven NIT's and also officiated the 1981 Rose Bowl in football. He was later inducted into the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame.
