DADE CITY, Fla. (February 8, 2021) – The Loyola University Chicago men's golf team officially lifted the lid on its 2021 spring season today, seeing action in a pair of matchups as part of the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play in Dade City, Fla.

The Ramblers played to a 3.0-3.0 tie with city-rival DePaul in their morning pairing, before dropping a 4.0-2.0 decision to UConn to close out the day.

In its morning tilt with the Blue Demons, senior
Justin LaFrance (4&3) and the sophomore pairing of
Timmy Crawford (one-up) and
Zach Walsh (one-up) all put points on the board for Loyola.Â

Redshirt senior
Nick Welden (4&3), and seniors
Devin Johnson (one-up) and
Ryan Magee (one-up) fell in their morning matchups.

Walsh completed a 2-0 day during the afternoon, picking up a two-and-one victory over his UConn counterpart. Johnson also earned a point for the Maroon & Gold, earning a one-up triumph.

Welden (4&3), LaFrance (one-up), Magee (2&1), and Crawford (5&4) all suffered setbacks against the Huskies.

Loyola, which sits in fifth place in the team standings, wraps up play at the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play on Tuesday when it battles Missouri Valley Conference rival Drake in a final-round pairing.
