Krutwig Named To USBWA All-District Team

Center was named AP Third Team All-America earlier this week

CHICAGO (March 17, 2021) – Loyola University Chicago senior Cameron Krutwig (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs) has been named to the All-District V Team by the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA). One of the greatest players to ever wear the Maroon and Gold, the 6-foot-9 center is the only player from outside the Big Ten Conference to earn USBWA All-District 5 recognition.

Krutwig has had a remarkable season that has culminated in the Ramblers' third trip to the postseason in the last four years, including the team's second NCAA berth during that span. He has raked in a plethora of accolades this year, including Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Associated Press Third Team All-America, and National Association of Basketball Coaches First Team All-District 16. The big man is the third Rambler in the last four years to be feted as MVC Player of the Year and is the first Loyola player since Alfredrick Hughes in 1985 to earn first, second or third team All-America honors.

Comprised of players from the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin, the USBWA All-District V Team also included Marcus Carr (Minnesota), Kofi Cockburn (Illinois), Hunter Dickinson (Michigan), Ayo Dosunmu (Illinois), Aaron Henry (Michigan State), Trayce Jackson-Davis (Indiana), E.J. Liddell (Ohio State), Isaiah Livers (Michigan) and Trevon Williams (Purdue).

Krutwig has scored in double digits on 23 occasions this season and has recorded five doubles-doubles, four of which have come in the last 10 contests. At the MVC Championship earlier this month, he was tabbed Tournament Most Valuable Player after putting up 15.3 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 3.7 apg, 2.0 bpg and 1.0 spg in three games as the Ramblers rolled to the title and earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, marking the program's second trip to the Big Dance in Krutwig's four-year career.

The only player in program history to rank in the school's top ten in points (1,790), rebounds (919) and assists (364) Krutwig, along with basketball legends Oscar Robertson, Larry Bird and Hersey Hawkins, are the only players in Missouri Valley Conference history to record 1,500 points, 800 rebounds and 300 assists in their careers.

Winner of 17 of its last 18 contests, Loyola brings a 24-4 overall record and No. 17 ranking in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll into Friday's NCAA Tournament First Round contest versus Georgia Tech. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m. CT and the game will be televised live on TBS.
