CHICAGO (March 30, 2021) – Loyola University Chicago senior
Cameron Krutwig (Algonquin, Ill./Jacobs) was named to the NCAA Men's Basketball Midwest Region All-Tournament Team last night. In three NCAA Tournament games this month, the 6-foot-9 center averaged 14.3 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.7 steals per game in helping the Ramblers reach the Sweet 16 for the second time in four years.
Â
One of the all-time Loyola greats, Krutwig, who is the only player in program history to rank in the school's top ten in scoring (5
th– 1,833), rebounding (7
th– 944) and assists (8
th– 373), recorded 14 points, 10 rebounds and four assists on March 27 in the NCAA Midwest Regional semifinals against Oregon State.
Â
This honor adds to a massive haul pulled in by Krutwig in an unforgettable 2020-21 season. The big man was an Associated Press Third Team All-America pick, became the third Loyola player in the last four years to be selected as the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, and took home MVC Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year accolades, in addition to numerous other honors.Â
Â
Krutwig is one of only four players in MVC history to rack up 1,500 points, 800 rebounds and 300 assists in his career, joining basketball royalty Oscar Robertson (Cincinnati), Larry Bird (Indiana State) and Hersey Hawkins (Bradley). During his four-year career, he helped the Ramblers to three postseason appearances – NCAA Final Four in 2018, National Invitation Tournament in 2019 and the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2021 – and was a key figure on three MVC regular-season championship clubs.
Â
In addition, Krutwig, along with classmate
Lucas Williamson, led Loyola to 99 wins over the last four seasons to become the winningest four-year players in program history.
Â
Loyola finished the 2020-21 campaign with a 26-5 overall record and set a single-season school record with 16 conference wins.
