CHICAGO (March 8, 2021) – After picking up a point in its Missouri Valley Conference opener just over a week ago, the Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team (1-1-2, 0-1-1 MVC) will return to action on Tuesday night when it takes on Evansville. Kickoff from Arad McCutchan Stadium in Evansville, Ind. is set for 6 p.m.
Last Time Out: Loyola posted its third clean sheet in as many games, battling Drake to a 0-0 double-overtime draw back on February 28 in Loves Park, Ill. Juniors
Fabian Becerra and
Ethan Stoneman, and sophomore
Oscar Dueso each tallied two shots to pace the Maroon & Gold's attack. Graduate student goalkeeper
Marcel Kampman finished with three saves as the Ramblers extended their streak of holding opponents scoreless to 310 minutes.
vs. Evansville: Evansville enters Tuesday's matchup at 0-3-0 on the year. The Purple Aces dropped their Valley opener on the road at Bradley by a final count of 1-0 last Thursday. Led by head coach Marshall Ray, Evansville, which closed the 2019 season at 2-15-1 (0-10-0 MVC), was picked to finish fifth in the MVC Preseason Poll. Ethan Garvey, who was named to the MVC All-Freshman Team a season ago, was named Preseason All-Valley. Pablo Guillen has the lone Purple Aces' goal this season, scored during a 3-1 setback at Lipscomb back on February 6. Ray's team is looking to fill the shoes left by four-year starter Frederik Reimer in goal. The duo of Matt Bryant and Jacob Madden have split time between the pipes this season, with Bryant holding a team-low 2.00 goals against average.
Series Stuff: Loyola and Evansville will meet for the 25th time this evening, a series in which the Purple Aces own a commanding 17-6-1 (.729) lead in. The two teams met 12 times as members of the former Midwestern Collegiate Conference (MCC) from 1982-1993. Loyola swept the season series between the two teams in 2019. A
Justin Sukow goal in the 56th minute proved to be the difference in a 2-1 victory on September 18, 2019 in Evansville, Ind. When the two teams met in Rogers Park on October 30, 2019, Becerra scored just three minutes in as the Maroon & Gold picked up a 1-0 win.
