CHICAGO (April 2, 2021) – The Loyola University Chicago men's golf team swept a pair of head-to-head meetings with local rivals this afternoon to capture the team title at the John Dallio Match Play in Lemont, Ill.

The Maroon & Gold defeated Chicago State by a count of 4.5-1.5 in a semifinal-round matchup during the morning, before outlasting event host DePaul, 3.5-2.5, this afternoon at the Ruffled Feathers Golf Club.

"Had a really fun day out here against some good rivals for us," Loyola head men's golf coach
Erik Hoops said. "It feels great to get a win after all the grinding stroke play events we've had over the last four weeks. I'm really proud of how the guys battled and got the win. We've got nothing but good vibes surrounding us heading into these last couple weeks."

Loyola recorded victories in four of its matchups against the Cougars, with senior
Ryan Magee (2&1) and the sophomore trio of
Timmy Crawford (six-up),
Nolan Doherty (one-up), and
Zach Walsh (3&2) all coming out on top. Senior
Devin Johnson halved his tilt, while fellow senior
Justin LaFrance fell, one-down.

In the battle with the Blue Demons for the event championship, Magee (3&2) and Doherty (2&1) both closed out undefeated days. LaFrance, Johnson, and Crawford earned half points for Loyola. Walsh suffered a 3&1 setback.Â
