Loyola Closes NCAA Noblesville Regional With Impressive Final Round

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (May 19, 2021) – The Loyola University Chicago men's golf team wrapped up a historic 2021 spring season with its top showing of the last three days as it closed play at the NCAA Noblesville Regional today in Noblesville, Ind.

The Ramblers ended their stay at The Sagamore Club (par 72; 7,173 yards) with a round of 299, besting their Tuesday total by three strokes, as they finished the event with a 54-hole total of 910 (309-302-299) to place 13th overall.

"I'm unbelievably proud of how the guys competed this week," Loyola head men's golf coach Erik Hoops commented.  "I hugged all of them after the last hole and told them that these last three weeks provided memories that will last a really long time.  To wrap up like we did today by shooting another good round is an unbelievable experience."

Leading the way for Loyola during final-round play was the duo of senior Ryan Magee and sophomore Timmy Crawford, both of whom shot in even-par rounds of 72.  Magee finished the day with three birdies and played the front nine at one-under-par as he tied for 47th with a seven-over-par 223 (76-75-72).  Crawford racked up a team-best six birdies on the day, four of which came during his first eight holes, and finished the back nine at one-under-par as he rose into a tie for 59th with a 230 (79-79-72).

Senior Devin Johnson wrapped up the event as the top Rambler on the individual leaderboard, finishing 46th overall with a six-over-par 222 (75-71-76) following a final-round four-over-par 76.  Johnson finished the regional with 36 pars, a mark that tied for fourth in the field.

Playing in his final collegiate round, senior Justin LaFrance carded a 79 to tie for 70th with at 238 (80-79-79).  Sophomore Zach Walsh finished tied for 68th as he landed a stroke in front of his senior counterpart, turning in an 81 that brought his total to 237 (79-77-81).

Fresh off leading Loyola to its first Missouri Valley Conference title and second NCAA berth in program history, Hoops is expected to welcome back seven letterwinners from this past season when Loyola opens its 2021-22 season in September.
